Top Things to Eat in Memphis
-
Muddy’s Cupcakes
You can’t really go wrong with any of them, but my favorites are Capote and Scarlett.
-
Swankys
Order the Taco Salad, and this is crucial, with Barbacoa (ask them to drain it well), Garlic Sauce, shredded cheese, salsa, tortilla strips, guacamole, and corn. Chips on the side.
-
Second Line
The BBQ shrimp are simmered in liquid gold. Make them leave the skillet on the table so you can dip all your other food in it.
-
Spindini
Lobster pizza. Go on Monday when it’s half off and split with a friend. It’s a lot of food.
-
Pearl’s Oyster House
If you go and don’t order the Charbroiled Oysters, it’s your own fault. The last time I went before 6:00 pm they were HALF OFF. I think that’s a thing.
-
Majestic Grill
I had one very terrible experience that I am still not 100% recovered from, but their Carmelized Onion Pork sandwhich is a long time favorite.
-
South of Beale
Rueben Fries. I hate to say this but I don’t know if they make them all the time. Their menu changes a lot. Also the popcorn.
-
Gibsons/Howards
I put these doughnut places together because my boyfriend (erg, I hate that word) and I disagree. I vote for Howard’s every time but he says real Memphians love Gibson. I’ll call it a tie.
-
El Mezcal
Chicken Nachos. Order the salsa diabla too if you like things spicy.
